Goal: to listen to and learn from our diverse community of Village residents while working with others to improve our health, safety, and quality of life.
My wife, Penelope, and I moved to 4701 Willard Avenue in 2008. At that time, I assumed executive leadership for the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a non-profit organization which serves and strengthens this nation’s 2600 local governmental health departments. This followed: a 22-year career in Michigan local government where I worked directly for and closely with a nine-member County Board much like our Village Council; a seven-year career as a consultant and administrator for state-wide maternal and child health programs; and, earlier, work in the non-profit, private, and education sectors. I currently serve as a trustee for a private foundation where, in addition to Board responsibilities, I chair an investment committee overseeing a diversified investment portfolio. I have:
-
wide ranging and relevant experience in the workings, processes, and financing of government and philanthropy.
-
helped conceive, organize, and deliver well-run, successful, ethically managed, multi-ethnic local and national programs with measurable outcomes in each of my past and current positions.
-
managed and overseen budgets in the tens of millions of dollars and staff numbers from single digits to hundreds of people.
-
worked cooperatively and closely with and on many boards and Councils comprised of a diverse set of elected officials and community members.
-
been recognized consistently with his teams for innovative programs, contributions, and accomplishments.
-
established relationships with local, County, Maryland, and national groups.
-
attended and participated in meetings and events of the Village for the past decade.
-
worked to beautify the Village by: contacting the Village Manager several times a year to assure sidewalks and front gardens of the Pink House are kept tidy; testing Little Falls Creek for salt levels as part of the Little Falls Watershed Alliance; and, participating in stewardship for Willard Avenue Neighborhood Park; and displaying his blown glass at the Village Center.
-
been married for 49 years and have two children.
